Jean’s own personal transformation has instilled a deep respect for the healing power of touch and somatic mind-body healing and her wish to share this gift with others. Her massage is unique in that it reflects an attitude as well as a technique … an attitude about caring, touching, emotional/energy awareness and spiritual healing … for both the client and the practitioner. We come together in a respectful atmosphere, full with the potential for loving kindness and healing.
After many years of traveling to Big Sur, Jean received her first Esalen Massage in 2003. Following a long hot soak in the healing mineral spring waters at the japanese-style baths that literally hang over the Pacific Ocean, she was greeted by her peaceful practitioner. Jean melted into the loving touch of the massage while listening to the waves crashing on the shore below and the pattering of a light rain on the metal roof above. Near the end of the session, Jean had a spiritual experience – as if the hands of the giver were free from physical body, nurturing and supporting the receiver. Massage took on a whole new meaning.
Diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in 2003, Jean began a transformation to healing.
Esalen played a major part in that process and instilled the importance of the mind-body (somatic) connection. Jean also opened her heart to the principals of Buddhism and mindful living and received the transmission of the Five Mindfulness Trainings from the Venerable Monk Thich Nhat Hanh. As her interests expanded, she studied yoga and became a Registereded Yoga Teacher as well as a State Certified Massage Therapist. Jean continues to expand her awareness of spirit and completed the Pachakuti Mesa Call to Heal Apprenticeship in the tradition of Peruvian cross-cultural shamanic healer Don Oscar Miro Quesada.
Jean’s past interests, which always inform the present, include an undergraduate degree in Social Work and a Masters of Architecture. Trained as an architect, Jean understands the importance of the body’s structural, muscular and other body systems, critical to the health of the entire being (a healthy organism requires a strong foundation). She is able to bring this unique appreciation and attention to detail to the massage table.
